UCGIS Urban Indicators
Mission Statement

Urban indicators provide valuable comparative information, but often the average or summary statistic masks a wide distribution of values that might occur at the individual level or in concentrated areas.  Analysis of geographic distributions, to identify "hot spots" or patterns, and the coincidence of spatial patterns provides insight and understanding. This is of interest to geographers and others concerned with the internal structure and functioning of cities.

The spatial patterns of related urban indicators can be compared to the spatial patterns of urban service provision to examine participation rates and spatial access (or conversely, distance decay).  This can be used in the locational analysis of different service patterns and to determine optimal locations of service providers.
