Research Projects Committee
The Research
Projects Committee is responsible for soliciting proposals and making
selections of awards for research grants that are sponsored by cooperating
agencies and run through UCGIS for the benefit of our members. For
example, Intergraph awards their GeoMedia grant to one institution each
year and they restrict this to UCGIS members. The Research
Projects Committee writes and advertises the RFP, accepts proposals from
UCGIS institutions, and makes the award on a competitive basis.

Communications Committee
The
Communications Committee has worked closely with the UCGIS central office
to manage the UCGIS web and listserv, outreach to GIS trade publications,
and assist other committees to broadcast the most current news, events,
and activities of interest to the UCGIS community. In the coming months,
the committee will make several changes to the listserv and web service in
order to better serve the member institutions and improve the visibility
of UCGIS to the general public. These improvements include new features in
the listserv and easy posting of announcements to the web. Certain
features will be rearranged or added to the home page in order to increase
the visibility of UCGIS events and activities.
