From the President’s Desk
It’s been a good year for UCGIS. Suzy Jampoler, Lynn Usery and I attended a workshop in April on “Developing a Leadership Strategy” that was held by the American Society of Association Executives (ASEE). The workshop gave us several ideas to think about for strengthening UCGIS over the next several years. At the Asilomar board meeting in June,
My attention lately has been focused on the upcoming Congressional Breakfast meeting that we hold in Washington, DC every winter. Sean Ahearn and Will Craig (Chair, Policy & Legislation Committee) have developed an excellent program featuring several speakers on homeland security topics. They received several excellent topic titles from our membership for the breakfast program, and had a tough time narrowing the list down. Senator Schumer from New York State will be hosting the breakfast and Sean helped immensely in getting the breakfast meeting to be held in the Rayburn Building. I encourage you to personally call your state representative and congressional offices and encourage them to attend the breakfast. For the afternoon program, Sean and Will also arranged for several Federal Agency representatives to talk to us to let us know what funding opportunities will be available in the near future in the GIScience area. I look forward to your ideas, either in person or by email. And I hope to see, meet and personally talk with you at the upcoming Congressional Breakfast. Carolyn |
