Surgical workflow monitoring and analysis in the operating room pr omote safe and efficient surgical operations through developing context sen sitive operating rooms, evaluating and training surgical staffs, optimizing surgeries and generating automatic reports. This webinar presents a study on analyzing movement patterns of surgical staff to recognize contexts duri ng neurosurgical operations. We collected movement data by video recording and an ultrasonic location aware system from 10 neurosurgery cases. We extr acted movement characteristics using an optical flow algorithm and trajecto ry-based clustering techniques. Then we applied a Support Vector Machine to the extracted patterns to examine the intraoperative context recognition r ate.
Presenter: Atsushi Nara is an Assistant Profe ssor in the Department of Geography at San Diego State University, where he is also an Associate Director at the Center for Human Dynamics in the Mobi le Age.
