The Research Committee will solicit nominations. After the nominations, a selection committee will be formed. The first award will be made at the Summer Assembly 2002.

Book on Research Challenges and Emerging Themes

The Research Committee voted on a motion to establish a date of Feb 28, 2002 for delivery of all chapters of the book on the 10 research challenges and the 4 emerging themes. If chapters are not delivered, the book will go to the publisher without the chapters. The motion passed unanimously.

Solicitation of new research challenges

A sub committee (David Mark, Bob McMaster, Lynn Usery) of the Research Committee will solicit nominations for research topics. Each member institution including all affiliates will be allowed submission of up to 5 themes, each to be accompanied by a brief description and a set of 5 keywords. Themes will be due by April 12, 2002. The subcommittee will place the submitted topics on a web site for review by the membership and will begin analysis to formulate a plan for discussion and organization at the Summer Assembly 2002. This discussion will be the primary focus of the research activity of UCGIS at the Assembly.
