Report on 2004 Winter Meeting

UCGIS held its 2004 Winter Meeting in Washington, DC, on February 5-6. The congressional program was dedicated to the theme of homeland security. Seven member institutions reported homeland security research activities supported by federal funding. The congressional program was followed by federal briefings. Representatives from federal agencies presented to the delegates grant opportunities in federal governments to support GI Science research. For the titles, abstracts, and powerpoint presentations of presentations and briefings, see http://www.ucgis.org/winter2004/. The photo gallery recorded these events http://www.ucgis.org/photos/winter04/.

The council meeting held election for the new officers: Nina Lam was elected to be the President-elect. May Yuan, David Tulloch, and Mei-Po Kwan were elected to the Board.

UCGIS hosted Urban Indicator Workshop

UCGIS conducted a three-day hands-on workshop on integrating geographic information systems (GIS) and urban indicator analysis on June 21-23, 2004, in Guadalajara, Mexico. The workshop was designed to introduce urban and regional planning university professors from Mexico and Central America to geographic information system (GIS) technology and applications.
