The Call for Applications

Overview:

The University Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS) is a non‑profit organization of over seventy universities and other research institutions dedicated to expanding and strengthening Geographic Information Science.

Assistant Professors (untenured) from UCGIS member institutions are invited to submit applications for Intergraph and ESRI Junior Faculty Travel Awards of $1,500.00 each to attend the 2009 UCGIS Summer Assembly, to be held at Bishop’s Lodge in Santa Fe, NM, June 22-23, 2009. Our goal is to attract junior faculty from across the U.S. to participate in UCGIS activities, contribute to agenda-building in Geographic Information Science research and teaching, and to prepare junior faculty to play an active role in Geographic Information Science-related academic organizations in the future.

Application Materials:

The deadline for submission of applications is 12:00 midnight EST, May 8, 2009.  Please send an email with application materials as an attachment to Dr. Jeremy Mennis (jmennis@temple.edu). Any number of applications may be submitted by a UCGIS member institution, though no more than one faculty will be selected from any UCGIS institution to receive a travel award.  Applicants receiving awards will be responsible for making their own travel and accommodation arrangements, and will be presented with checks for $1,500.00 at the conference.  A total of four awards will be made.  Awardees will be notified by May 18, 2009.

Application materials should include the following:

  1. The applicant’s full CV.
  2. A statement of no more than 2500 words describing the applicant’s current and future research and teaching agendas in Geographic Information Science, the applicant’s career objectives, and how participating in the UCGIS Summer Assembly will help the applicant further their career objectives and facilitate continuing contributions to the field of Geographic Information Science.

For more information contact Dr. Jeremy Mennis (jmennis@temple.edu ).

These awards are made possible through the generous support of Intergraph (www.intergraph.com) and ESRI (www.esri.com).
