This
will be an exceptional opportunity to come together with
colleagues for briefings by top officials in federal agencies
that provide support for research and other GIS projects. We
expect to hear about new developments at NSF, USGS, NASA, NSA,
NGA, and others. This meeting also provides an opportunity for
the UCGIS community to describe current GIS research projects to
agencies, as well as members of Congress and their professional
staff. Papers already selected for presentation at the sessions
on Capitol Hill focus on GIS and disasters.
The UCGIS Board will meet on
Wednesday morning, February 8 and on Friday evening, February 10 , and committee meetings will
meet on Friday afternoon, February 10. Formal sessions will start after breakfast
on Thursday, February 9, with a congressional briefing and
presentations from agency representatives. The balance of the
schedule on Thursday and Friday will include visits to several
federal agencies, opportunities for personal meetings with
members of Congress and staff, and the Winter Council Meeting of
Delegates. The final session will end in late afternoon on
February 10.
Accommodations are limited for
this meeting, so it is important for delegates to register for
the conference and reserve a hotel room as soon as possible.
