Jeremy
Mennis (PhD, Pennsylvania State University, 2001) is an Associate Professor of
Geography and Urban Studies at Temple University. Previously, he was Assistant
Professor of Geography at the University of Colorado from 2001-2004. Jeremy has
theoretical research interests in the computational representation and analysis
of spatio-temporal phenomena, as well as applied research interests in the
spatial analysis of urban health and crime. He has published in journals such as
International Journal of Geographical Information Science, International Journal
of Remote Sensing, and Annals of the Association of American Geographers, and
has received funding from agencies such as NASA, NSF, NIH, and NIJ. Jeremy
currently serves on the editorial board of Compass Geography. Jeremy first
became involved in the University Consortium for Geographic Information Science
(UCGIS) as a graduate student in 1999, and he has been a UCGIS delegate since
2001. He led Temple University’s successful UCGIS membership application in
2005. Since 1999 Jeremy has served the UCGIS in a variety of posts: as a member
of both the Research Committee and the Communications Committee; as a member of
the Program Committee for the UCGIS Geographic Visualization and Knowledge
Discovery Workshop (November 18-20, 2005, Washington, D.C.); as a member of the
Advisory Board for the UCGIS GIS&T Model Curricula/Body of Knowledge project; as
a reviewer for the UCGIS student travel grant competition; as a reviewer for the
UCGIS SPACE workshop competition; and most recently as Liaison to the UCGIS for
the Association of American Geographers (AAG) GIS Specialty Group.
