Mary Lou Larson is Professor of Anthropology and Associate Director of the George C. Frison Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Wyoming. She received her Master’s and PhD degrees in Anthropology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her research includes GIS approaches to the study of the spatial distribution and variation of surface archaeology across the landscape; the identification of ancient sediments and archaeological site formation through remote sensing; chipped stone technological organization; and understanding Rocky Mountain and Plains prehistory through analysis of intensively excavated stratified archaeological sites. On-going projects include GIS and remote sensing in the Moxa Arch and Jonah/Anticline areas of southwest Wyoming and GIS of the rock shelters of the Bighorn Basin and Mountains.  Her publications include Hell Gap: A Paleoindian Campsite at the Edge of the Rockies (with Marcel Kornfeld and George C. Frison), Aggregate Analysis in Chipped Stone (with C. T. Hall), and Changing Perspectives on the Archaic of the Northwestern Plains and Rocky Mountains (with Julie Francis).  Dr Larson developed and teaches GIS in Anthropology. She has consulted with the Wyoming SHPO cultural records office in the development of their data management and GIS.  Mary Lou has served as a delegate to University Consortium for Geographic Information Science for 10 years. She has been a member of the Education Committee, chair of the Membership committee (2003-2006) and member of the Board of Directors (2006-2009).
