CyberGIS enables geospatial scholars to ask bigger questions - it removes the barriers of handing ever larger datasets, running more complex simulations, and engaging colleagues and stakeholders worldwide. As GIS practice becomes more cyber-enabled every day, universities face challenges in keeping up with rapidly evolving technology while reinforcing the core of spatial science. In this webinar, we will discuss the role of training workshops in building cyberGIS literacy, the potential of distributed efforts in creating open educational materials like the CyberGIS Fellows program, and how to keep students engaged through hybridized approaches to training and education.

Presenter: Johnathan Rush is the Education, Outreach, and Training Coordinator at the CyberGIS Center for Advanced Digital and Spatial Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. At the Center, he organizes workshops to transfer cutting-edge cyberGIS practices to diverse communities of scholars, and manages the CyberGIS Helpdesk consulting service. He has been working with GIS in research and the public sector for over ten years, and is currently a PhD candidate in geography.
