What are the benefits of being selected to be a UCGIS Fellow?
- Recognition as a leader in the geographic information science and technology profession, as someone who has attained distinction, has made an ongoing commitment to this profession, and supports UCGIS’s leadership role within the profession.
- Formal recognition during the annual UCGIS Symposium, including presentation of a commemorative plaque. Newly elected Fellows may request a press release to distribute at their discretion.
- Increased professional visibility as a UCGIS Fellow, including a bio and picture featured on the UCGIS website.
- Opportunities for leadership and engagement, as Fellows may provide advice and direction to the UCGIS organization and champion special projects in consultation with UCGIS leadership.
How do I submit nominations?
All submissions must be made electronically. The form can be accessed via the button on the Nominations page when the call is open.
Is there a Nomination Form?
A brief submission form is used to collect nominations; however, a signed nomination letter is required. The nomination letter should clearly articulate why the nominee should be honored with the UCGIS Fellow designation.
When is the Nomination Deadline?
The call for nominations is typically in early Spring. Nomination deadlines will be posted on the website with the link when the nomination period is open.
Can I nominate myself?
No. Self-nominations are not permitted.
How are Fellows selected?
Fellows are selected through a review and voting process. The selection committee consists of current Fellows plus the UCGIS Executive Committee (President, immediate Past President, and President-Elect).
When will the announcement of newly elected Fellows be made?
Elected Fellows will be notified by the UCGIS President or its Executive Director within a few weeks after the nomination deadline. A public announcement on the website and/or social media platforms will follow.
Formal recognition takes place at the annual UCGIS Symposium.
Is the a limit to the number of new Fellows that may be recommended each year?
Typically, no more than two (2) Fellows will be selected in any given year.
