GIS&T Body of Knowledge

The Geographic Information Science & Technology Body of Knowledge (BoK) is available via two new platforms to support more extensive data exploration, search, discovery, and visualization.

Visualization and Search Tool

From the GIS&T BoK Visualization platform, the full collection of 350+ Topics appears in its hierarchical structure. Topics are nested within Thematic Units which belong within Knowledge Areas (KA). Only the Domain Applications KA has its Topics as stand-alone content.

Each Topic is available as an easy-to-read version of its description, learning objectives, and other elements.

This brief guide (pdf) to the Vis & Search platform will assist in navigating the interface.

This video (~ 6 minutes) explains how to navigate platform.

Looking for a quick summary overview of the full collection? Here's a color-coded 2-page overview (pdf) (last updated July 1, 2024).

Living Textbook Platform

From the GIS&T BoK Living Textbook platform, all Topics can be accessed directly through robust search functionality, or accessed via an animated knowledge graph that depicts connections across the BoK content.

Each Topic is available as an easy-to-read version of its description, learning objectives, and other elements.

This video (~ 10 minutes) explains how to take advantage of this platform.
