Institutional Membership Levels
Choose the membership level that best fits your institution’s size, mission, and GIScience footprint.
UCGIS offers several institutional membership options designed to support universities, colleges, and partner organizations with different sizes, missions, and levels of engagement in GIScience. All memberships provide access to core benefits, with additional opportunities based on institutional scope and participation.
Regular (Full) Membership
Who it’s for:
Colleges, universities, national laboratories, or societies with broad GIS&T education and research across multiple departments.
What you get:
- Full access to UCGIS resources for all faculty, staff, students, and administrators
- Two delegate votes in UCGIS governance
Annual dues:
$2,000 (Full institutional membership)
Basic Membership
Who it’s for:
A single department, school, or program within an institution where GIScience activity is more focused or smaller in scale.
What you get:
- Full access to UCGIS resources
- One delegate vote in UCGIS governance
Annual dues:
$750
Community College Membership
Who it’s for:
Community colleges with GIScience education and activity.
What you get:
- Full access to UCGIS resources
- Voting delegate(s) in UCGIS governance
Two tiers:
- Single School/Program: 1 delegate — $250
- Whole Campus: 2 delegates — $500
Affiliate Membership
Who it’s for:
Institutions, agencies, or organizations actively involved in GIScience education, research, or service but not eligible for regular membership (e.g., corporate, government, international affiliates).
What you get:
- Participation in many UCGIS activities
- Access to resources such as committee involvement
- No voting rights or eligibility for elected office
Annual dues:
Set by the UCGIS Board of Directors
Choosing the Right Level
Full vs Basic:
- Choose Full if GIScience is a core mission across multiple departments or as a campus-wide commitment.
- Choose Basic if GIScience is concentrated in a single program or school and you want departmental representation.
Community College:
This flexible category lets community colleges participate fully with dues scaled to size and scope.
Affiliate:
Best for non-US universities, professional societies, agencies, or corporations engaged in GIScience education or research.
